THE FRIENDS OF PROSPECT LIBRARY - ADELAIDE
The Friends of Prospect Library was formed around 1990 to support the public library run by the City of Prospect in South Australia. Over the years our activities have changed but have included fundraising, author talks, public events, volunteering in the library and community consultation. The lease on the old building expired in 2019 and Prospect Council built a new facility at 128 Prospect Rd, Prospect. The new Library and Civic Centre is now open and is known as Payinthi. In 2019 we took a breather from normal activities while we researched the role of Library Friends’ organisations in the changing environment of public libraries. Then in 2020, we got hit for six by the coronavirus crisis! The Library was closed for several months, so no activities for us. The Library has now re-opened. However, it is not yet possible for us to resume activities such as book sales. We are holding a face-to-face AGM in 2020 - Thursday 26th November at 5.30pm at the Library. The Future Once life returns to normal, we need to re-define and develop the role of the Friends for the future. Do you think the Friends of Prospect Library has a role to play in future?
