THE FRIENDS OF PROSPECT LIBRARY - ADELAIDE INC.
The Friends of Prospect Library Inc was formed around 1990 to support the public library run by the City of Prospect in South Australia. Over the years our activities have changed but have included fundraising, author talks, public events, supporting children's writing competitions, volunteering in the library and community consultation.
The Education Department lease on the library building at Nailsworth expired in 2019, passed back to Nailsworth Primary School and Prospect Council built a new Library and Civic Centre known as Payinthi at 128 Prospect Rd, Prospect. Friends of Prospect Library was involved in the community consultation. At our 2018 AGM, we decided to have a quiet reflective year during 2019 while the new Library was under construction to assess our future role in the new building.
Friends of Prospect Library contributed $10.000 towards the Emu Feathers mural by artist, Elizabeth Close, in the Library children's area called Kardi Wardli or Emu House in the Kaurna language.
In 2020, we got hit for six by the coronavirus crisis! The Library was closed for several months, so no activities for us. It re-opened so we were able to have our 2020 Annual General Meeting held over to 11 February 2021 and run Book Sales during 2021 recycling the Library's old book stock. We donated $250 towards the cost of prizes for the Prospect Library 2021 Children Writing Competition.
